I think that my magazine would be published by a large company such as IPC it is owned by Time Warner, which is one of the biggest multinational media companies in the world. This would be beneficial because the company is very well known, therefore it will recognised as being very reliable as it publishes so many different magazines. It would also give the product a very wide distribution and they have deals with the UK’s largest magazine retailer, (W H Smiths). But going with such a large company would maybe affect the "editorial independence" of the magazine, the company may make us pay as much attention to advertisers featured in the magazine as we do to target audience in order to maximise the profits. The company IPC publish the music magazine NME, so I think that it would be a good idea for them to publish my magazine as it would be targeting a whole new audience for music magazines. This company seem to publish at least one magazine which would appeal to most people, such as ‘What Digital Camera’, ‘The shooting Times’ and ‘Now’ so there is a wide range of magazines that target a wide range of people by their gender, social class and their interests. But if I were to have my magazine published by an independent company then I think this would be cost effective because you would not have to pay someone to publish it and you would be able to publish it the way you want, but one negative of publishing with a small company is that the product would not be as widely distributed. When publishing a magazine you would have to think about the use of synergy, as there would be an online version of the magazine, there may even be sister products such as a radio stations and some magazines even get involved with sponsoring ceremonies and events and even iTunes, but this depends on the genre and the target audience of the magazine.
