College Magazine Analysis

This is a college magazine cover called ‘Soup’ my eye was attracted to this magazine cover because it is very graphical, so from this I think that the target audience is teenagers, this is because it looks very different to other magazines, this is significant because it will then stand our form other and it will make this magazine unique. I really like the use of colour in this piece because the colours are very contrasting but they are very complimentary and make each other more prominent.

The main focal point in this magazine cover is the tin of soup in the middle of the page, and also it is a very unusual object to see on the front cover of a magazine. This make the cover look very different to all other magazines, therefore this element will then attract the target audience because the image is so different so it will get noticed when it is amongst other magazines.
The colour red is the most predominant colour in this magazine cover. The colour red connotes danger, especially when mixed with the colour black, (which in this magazine cover is used for the main title.) the fact that these two colours have been used together could connote that reading this magazine will be a complete contrast from any other magazine, as these two colours are very contrasting.

Soups are mad from a variety of ingredients blended together. So the name of the magazine gives the audience a clue to what the magazine will be like. The main elements of the magazine are listed down the right hand side of the page, listed under the heading ‘ingredients’ and this heading links to the name of the magazine.

In the image in the centre of the magazine cover denotes a can of soup warming up on an electric cooker, with the dials of the cooker behind. The dials shown in this image are circular shape. And the shape of the right dial has been repeated in the top right corner, about seven times, there is an outline in the colour red with a solid red circle in the middle. The fact that they have been coloured red is significant because the eye will be attracted to the red circles, after noticing the dials in the image. Once they have looked at the red circles the viewer’s eye will travel down and then see the ‘ingredients’ of the magazine, this works well because the text has been colours red also.
